Chiew Larn Lake

Chiew Larn Lake, also known as Ratchaprapha Dam, is located in Khao Sok National Park, Surat Thani Province. It is a tourist destination filled with beauty and tranquility, with stunning limestone mountains lining the emerald green waters, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere. One of the most interesting and iconic landmarks of Chiew Larn Lake is the “Three Peaks” (Khao Sam Gliew), a group of three limestone peaks located in the middle of the lake. These limestone islands resemble peaks emerging from the water, standing tall amidst the lake, surrounded by stunning scenery. It is a perfect spot for photography and experiencing the wonders of nature.

Chiew Larn Dam was officially opened on Wednesday, September 30, 1987, with King Bhumibol Adulyadej presiding over the ceremony to inaugurate the dam and the hydroelectric power plant. The dam was renamed “Ratchaprapha Dam,” meaning “The Light of the Kingdom,” as its primary purpose was to generate electricity.

The nearest airports are Surat Thani Airport and Phuket International Airport. From Surat Thani Airport, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach Ratchaprapha Pier (Cheow Lan Dam Pier), while from Phuket, it takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours by car.

By train

Surat Thani Railway Station is the nearest train station. Once you arrive at the station, you can take a taxi or use pre-arranged transportation services to reach the pier, which takes about 1 hour.

By car

For those traveling from Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak, or Koh Samui, driving or taking a shuttle is a popular option. Several transportation services are available to take you to Ratchaprapha Pier, the departure point for boats exploring the lake.
